"Mad Libs" Style Form Increases Conversion 25-40%

A while ago, I came across a unique registration form built by Jeremy Keith for his audio sharing site, Huffduffer. Though it asked people the same questions found in typical sign-up forms, the Huffduffer registration form did so in a narrative format. It presented input fields to people as blanks within sentences (Mad Libs-style, if you will).

huff duffer sign-up form

This is cool, though I don't trust the conversion claims.

Into the Tsangpo Gorge

An insane, but beautiful kayaking expedition. I wish I had half the balls these guys did to do this kind of stuff.

Email Signatures

I received an email today with a signature that looked something like this:
John Appleseed
Big Consulting > Development > Infrastructure Innovation
Manager of Infrastructure
Los Angeles, CA
OC Phone: 213.421.4141 | Land line: 213.693.9845 | VPN: 09/44557 | Octel: 78/900054
Holy shit, really? You have four phone numbers to choose from? Let me dial your VPN good sir! Got an Octel? No worries, you'll be able to get a hold of John. Just what I need, more decisions to make.

What's wrong with a signature that looks more like this?
John Appleseed
Manager of Infrastructure, Big Consulting Corp.
Phone: 213.421.4141
Don't worry John, I have your email address because you emailed me... remember? If you really want your four phone numbers, sign up for something like Google Voice; I promise your company won't notice.

TV Remotes

I saw this great idea while reading Designing Interactions. While its pretty damn funny, it really speaks to the sad state of design for devices that should be simple to begin with.

Burger King to open Whopper Bar in Miami - Jan. 22, 2010

To keep up with Miami's night life, Burger King (BKC)'s new Whopper bar will offer American beer and Whopper sandwiches around the clock, staying open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

I wonder how many other fast food joints will copy this idea.
